2 siblings die as house catches fire after laptop battery explosion
FAISALABAD: Two children died and seven others suffered burn injuries after a fire erupted at the house due to an explosion of a laptop battery.
The incident occurred at a house located in located at the Satyana road of Shareef Pura neighbourhood caught fire as laptop battery exploded while charging.
Rescue officials said the battery got overheated due to continuous overcharging and exploded, causing a fire in the room where an air-conditioner was also on and caught fire.
At least nine people of the family, including five children and two women, residing in the house were shifted to the burns unit of the Allied Hospital following the incident.
The injured persons – Rehan Raza (8), Aiman Fatima (4), Ibrahim Ahmad (3), Farhat Aslam (45), Makki Raza (24), Rashida (40) and Nargis Ahmed (32) – were shifted to hospital.
According to media reports, two children, Talha, aged 9, and his sister Dua Fatima, aged 6, succumbed to their injuried, while seven received treatment in critical condition.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed regret over the death of children, extending condolence and sympathy to the bereaved family. The chief minister ordered the provision of the best treatment and medical facilities for those injured in the incident.
Regional Police Officer Dr Muhammad Abid Khan has ordered the senior superintendent of police to begin an investigation into the incident.
Faisalabad deputy commissioner has also formed a committee to investigate the incident. He also assured that those injured in the fire are receiving the best treatment.
