Eight million Pakistanis still exposed to floodwater
United Nations released a report on Tuesday claiming that floodwaters still exists in 11 parts of Sindh and two of Balochistan. In Sindh some of the regions that are still inundated with water include, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, Dadu and Badin. In Balochistan, Sohbatpur and Jafferabad districts are still flooded with water.
The report also stated that this stagnant water is extremely detrimental for the health of the people residing in these districts especially children. Water related skin and bodily diseases are growing in these areas rampantly. Diseases like dengue and skin diseases are eczema are all bound to happen in this water borne areas.
As per the report, eight million people are still exposed to the floodwater which is a huge cause of concern for the people residing in these cities and the government.
Adding to that is the problem of housing of these people. Since the floods washed away houses of the locals, currently they are living in tents or make shift shelters with minimal sanitation and no facilities. This results in the destruction of the infrastructure and causes further health issues since a lot of people are cramped into the small spaces. Living in such hazardous conditions may also pose a threat of the people living there as we have heard many a times about the roofs of such places collapsing and proving to be fatal for its residents.
The government needs to take the necessary measures to help these people. The poorly conditions in which they are living needs to be looked into and effective solutions need to be given to the people.
