Giligit Baltistan: A region with no power supply
For past weeks, the residents of Gilgit Baltistan region have been facing power outages for as long as 22 hours a day during the freezing winter season. This has wrecked a havoc on the life of the people as without electricity, they are unable to do their day-to-day work. The lack of electricity also means that during that the cold winter time, they are unable to stay warm inside their houses especially at night when they are forced to stay in the dark.
The locals have Skardu took to the streets in protest with multiple banners and slogans in hand, criticizing the government of the state, stating the “indifference to our torment”.
The locals are fed up of living in such a miserable state and have warned the government that if their demands are not fulfilled within 10 days, they would escalate their campaign.
Najaf Ali, the Awami Action Committee, said, “Instead of solving people’s problems, they have flown to Islamabad to escape public wrath.”
