Pakistan Government decides to take action against Power Theft.

The Pakistan government wants to prevent power theft worth billions of rupees and has decided to form a special force for it.

The main purpose of the specialized force will be to end the ‘kunda connection’ in industrial and residential areas. They will also be working to recover losses from electricity thieves. The force however will only be created after the federal cabinet’s nod.

Kunda Connections (illegal electric connections) are connections done by general public who have no expertise in the task. Not only are these connections illegal and cause huge losses to the electric supply companies but can prove to be harmful and sometimes fatal for the people doing it.

These connections may cause people getting electrocuted if they are aren’t taking the precautionary measures. Touching the dangling wires without proper gear and tampering with them is very dangerous. It can prove to be lethal in many cases.

As per the NEPRA’s report, 189 people have died due to electricity related accidents in 2020-21.
