Orakzai coalmine blast- nine killed, four injured.
In the recent years we have witnessed many accidents related to blasts at coal mines across Pakistan which have proved to be fatal for the workers. The Pakistan Labour Federation says that on an average 200 workers are killed in mining accidents every year in the country.
On Wednesday, there was a gas blast at a Orakzai coal mine in Peshawar proving to be fatal for nine and injured four workers.
Time and again we have heard of such stories. However, we have not any strict laws made by the government or any precautions taken business owners to safeguard the coal mine workers.
Adoption of modern equipment and provision of appropriate attire for the coal mine workers can help with reducing the number of accidents happening at the coal mines but the business owners don’t seem to be keen on making such an investments.
If we don’t see any change in the operations of a coal mine in Pakistan and the absence of the laws continue, we will never see a decline in these on-site accidents.
