Substandardard wiring system: A threat to the residents of the building

Inadequate internal wiring is hazardous to residents. For example, in Pakistan, 50 percent of fire incidents occur due to substandard electric wiring, Dawn.

Low-quality wiring poses electrocutions, damages home appliances, and fire due to short-circuits. Some incidents happened due to poor and uncovered switches. E.g., a person was electrocuted while turning on the pedestal fan. Especially in monsoon season, it worsens.

However, FESCO has released an awareness campaign for the public to live safely. They have directed people the ways to install wiring at home. One of them is; unnecessary metal devices and wires away from electrical installations. He said that earthing would provide a safe way to eliminate lightning and short-circuiting current. It would also help prevent fire hazards due to current leakage.

Therefore, there should be a survey to inspect the buildings as per the standards and issue certificates on the quality of wiring.
