Nepra’s: Power safety awareness campaign aims to achieve zero incidents

Nepra introduces a safety campaign for the general public and electricians. Pakistan is going through a severe electricity crisis that includes electrocutions and substandard material that cause explosions hence, fatalities. Numerous incidents happen in Pakistan more often in regards to power.,

Therefore, to educate people and all other power stakeholders, it is necessary to have these precautions released from the national power license organization.

The mission of the campaign:

  • Protect the lives and well-being of consumers, employees, and contractors;
  • Minimize any impact on the environment;
  • Minimize damage to equipment and property;
  • Minimize interruptions to the power supply and economic losses in Pakistan

There are many precautions for the general public; a few of them are mentioned below:

  •  Conduct regular inspection of internal wiring at house, shop, or factory by a licensed electrician. 
  •  Don’t try to repair electrical items yourself at home, shop, or factory. Call licensed electrician
  • Immediately replace all faulty and broken electrical switches, sockets, plugs, holders, and cables.
  • Use three-pin plugs and sockets for washing machines, refrigerators, irons, and other electrical appliances.
  • Don’t connect loose open wires without an electrical plug in the socket.

  1. Private electricians shall be trained at a vocational institute approved by the provincial government.
  2. The electrician must hold a valid Permit/ License (certificate of competency) issued by a Regional Electric Inspector Office/ Provincial Office of Inspection (POI)
  3. Private electricians and cable operators shall not work on electricity distribution systems/poles.
  4. Private electricians shall switch off and isolate electrical sources before repairing domestic or commercial appliances/equipment.
  5. Private electricians must use proper insulated electrical tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) when repairing domestic or commercial appliances/equipment.
